A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring Lynn Verschoor for her twenty years of inspirational and dedicated service as the Director of the South Dakota Art Museum encouraging the collecting, preserving, and exhibiting of visual arts to provide access and education, and to foster the appreciation of visual arts.

WHEREAS, Lynn Verschoor has collaborated with South Dakota State University departments including English, Dance, Theatre, Music, Mass Communications, and the Yeager Media Center to create the Faculty Scholars Program, the Museum Studies Minor, "An Evening with Harvey Dunn's Feminine Images," as well as planning the outdoor Anderson Plaza, and the addition of Scott Wallace's sculpture "Oasis"; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Lynn has shown her commitment to working with American Indians through collaborating with the Center for American Indian Research and Native Studies developing workshops and curriculum that promotes visual artists, musicians, and poets in South Dakota; and

WHEREAS, Lynn has expanded the scope of the South Dakota Art Museum to include the Brookings Kite Festival, the Public Art Program, workshops on Visual Thinking Strategies, and guiding students and adults on tours throughout the Museum; and

WHEREAS, Lynn achieved her goal of making the South Dakota Art Museum a place full of activity, people, learning, and fun:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature commends and honors Lynn Verschoor for her service to the South Dakota Art Museum and the visual arts.
