A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring and commending Brent Sutton for his outstanding career achievements and continued dedication to preserving South Dakotan values.
WHEREAS, Brent Sutton was born into rodeo and as a young boy fell in love with the sport and community. He is a fifth-generation owner of Sutton Rodeo, and under the guidance of those before him, he continues to grow Sutton Rodeo; and
WHEREAS, Brent Sutton started his career as a pickup man in 2004 before becoming a PRCA contestant in 2007. He showed his promise in the sport when he was named the 2008 SDRA Rookie of the Year. Brent proved his determination by taking on the role of WNFR Assistant Chute Boss, a role he has continued since 2013. Brent also showcased his talented cowboy skills in the streets of Rapid City when he was called to help wrangle a loose bull in 2017; and
WHEREAS, Brent Sutton has picked up for several of the largest rodeos in the country. Steve Sutton, Brent's father, was an outstanding pickup man in his own right, having been selected to pickup at the National Finals Rodeo five times. Following in his father's footsteps, Brent was selected to pickup the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo by the best bareback and saddle bronc riders in the world. Brent has shown throughout his life and career that he exemplifies the qualities of all South Dakotans: grit, fortitude, conviction, and talent:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Sixth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that Brent Sutton be honored and commended for being an exemplary citizen, his continued success with rodeo, and showing the world the qualities of a true South Dakotan.
