A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION, Opining that Tayamni should be recognized as the official constellation of this state.
WHEREAS, the star-filled night sky is a precious natural resource that is celebrated around the world as a shared heritage that connects the human race across time and across distance. Indeed, Lakota teachings provide that every person born into this world is given a spirit with a star; and
WHEREAS, the constellation, Tayamni, is unique and special to this state. This constellation, which is comprised of seven stars, was identifiable when this state came into existence and can be viewed in cities as well as the open country as it features stars of high magnitude; and
WHEREAS, recognizing Tayamni as this state's official constellation would help explain to the world what is unique and special about this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the House of Representatives of the Ninety-Sixth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, the Senate concurring therein, that Tayamni should be recognized as the official constellation of this state.
