The required knowledge must include:</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9b000003"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">    (1)  </span><span class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">Familiarity with pesticide labels and labeling for products used in non-soil fumigation</span><span class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">    (2)  </span><span class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">An understanding of:</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9b000003"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (a)  Ways in which persons can become exposed to fumigants;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (b)  Common problems and mistakes that can result in direct exposure to fumigants;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (c)  Signs and symptoms of human exposure to fumigants;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (d)  Air concentrations of a fumigant that require applicators to wear respirators or to exit the work area entirely;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (e)  Steps to take if an applicator experiences sensory irritation as a result of the fumigation;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (f)  Air sampling and monitoring, when it is required, and where and when to take samples requirements;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (g)  Buffer zone monitoring requirements;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (h)  First aid measures to address fumigant exposure; and</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (i)  Labeling requirements for transportation, storage, spill clean-up, and emergency response for non-soil fumigants, including instructions for safe disposal of containers and contaminated materials, and management of empty containers;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9b000003"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">    (3)  An understanding of:</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9b000003"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (a)  The chemical characteristics of non-soil fumigants;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (b)  The consequences of human exposure to non-soil fumigants;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (c)  How fumigants change from a liquid or solid to a gas;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (d)  How fumigants disperse in an application zone; and</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (e)  The compatibility of tanks, hoses, tubing, and other equipment, with a fumigant;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9b000003"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">    (4)  An understanding of:</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9b000003"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (a)  Application methods and equipment commonly used for non-soil fumigation;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (b)  The potential for site characteristics to affect fumigant exposure;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (c)  Application timing as a result of air stability, air temperature, humidity, and wind currents, and labeling restrictions on an application under specific conditions;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (d)  The need to inspect application equipment and the site to be fumigated, prior to an application;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (e)  The reason for and methods of sealing the area to be fumigated;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (f)  The calculations to determine the amount of product required for a treatment area;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (g)  The basic techniques for calibrating non-soil fumigant application equipment; and</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (h)  The requirements for monitoring the air quality in the treatment area;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9b000003"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">    (5)  An understanding of:</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9b000003"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (a)  Influence of pest factors on fumigant volatility;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (b)  Factors that affect gaseous movement through the area being fumigated and into the air;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (c)  The identity of the pests causing the damage and whether they can be controlled with fumigation;</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bP0"><span xml:space="preserve" class="s3afbb818-e944-4759-9ce3-6d7aea755e9bC0">        (d)  The relationship between pest density and application rate;
