A vehicle consisting of a single unit or a combination of two units may move on the state trunk highway system. A vehicle combination consisting of three units may move on the state highway system, but not on the interstate highway system. The permit shall be assigned to the permit vehicle's power unit. An assigned permit may be used to road-deliver a self-propelled farm implement.</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54Normal"><span xml:space="preserve" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54000002"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54Normal"><span xml:space="preserve" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54DefaultParagraphFont">    The extended period permit is valid for the movement of an overwidth permit vehicle up to 16 feet wide on the interstate highway system and up to 20 feet wide on the state highway system. The maximum length of the vehicle may not exceed 100 feet. The maximum length of a farm implement in a three unit combination is 45 feet. The height of the permit vehicle may not exceed 18 feet. A permit vehicle that exceeds these size limits requires a single-trip permit.</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54Normal"><span xml:space="preserve" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54000002"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54Normal"><span xml:space="preserve" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54DefaultParagraphFont">    Single and two unit vehicles may move during daylight hours. Three unit vehicle combinations may move only from sunrise to sunset.</span></p><p dir="ltr" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54Normal"><span xml:space="preserve" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54000002"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54Normal"><span xml:space="preserve" class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54DefaultParagraphFont">    If a permit vehicle consists of one or more units not equipped with operating brakes on all wheels, the permit vehicle's power unit must be a farm tractor or its equivalent. If the permit vehicle's power unit is not a farm tractor or its equivalent, the permit vehicle may not exceed a speed of 25 miles per hour or additional limitations as listed by the implement tire manufacturer or it must be demonstrable, upon request by a law enforcement officer, that it meets the brake performance requirements of SDCL subdivision </span><a href="https://sdlegislature.gov/Statutes?Statute=32-18-8"><span class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54DefaultParagraphFont-000003">32-18-8</span></a><span class="sa6a85a2d-bcb5-4d71-8b5d-1843d49fba54DefaultParagraphFont">(3).
