Coverage for at least 48 hours of in-patient care following a vaginal delivery and 96 hours following a delivery by cesarean for the mother and her newborn child is required. However, if the treating physician determines, using appropriate medical criteria, that a shorter length of hospitalization is appropriate, you have coverage for that shorter stay and also for one follow-up visit in the first 48 hours after discharge to verify the condition of the mother and newborn.
