<html> <head> <title>Rule 44:02:07:67 Backflow prevention.</title> <META NAME="Keywords" Content="Administrative Rules 44:02:07:67"> <META NAME="Description" Content="Administrative Rules 44:02:07:67 Backflow prevention."> <meta name=Generator content="Microsoft Office HTML Filter 2.0"> <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <meta name=Originator content="Microsoft Word 10"> <style> <!-- --> </style> </head> <body lang=EN-US> <div> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <b>44:02:07:67.&nbsp;&nbsp;Backflow prevention.</b> The prevention of backflow or back siphonage must be accomplished in the following manner:</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; (1)&nbsp;&nbsp;A plumbing system must be installed to preclude backflow of a solid, liquid, or gas contaminant into the water supply system at each point of use at the food establishment by providing an air gap between the water supply inlet and the flood level rim of the plumbing fixture, equipment, or nonfood equipment that is at least twice the diameter of the water supply inlet and is not less than 25 millimeters (1 inch) or by installing a backflow prevention device;</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; (2)&nbsp;&nbsp;Carbonating devices must be installed with adequate backflow prevention as required by the device manufacturer;</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; (3)&nbsp;&nbsp;A direct connection may not exist between the sewage system and drain originating from equipment in which food, portable equipment, or utensils are placed.
