<html> <head> <title>Rule 74:56:01:15 Operation and maintenance of cathodic protection -- Criteria for taking tests.</title> <META NAME="Keywords" Content="Administrative Rules 74:56:01:15"> <META NAME="Description" Content="Administrative Rules 74:56:01:15 Operation and maintenance of cathodic protection -- Criteria for taking tests."> <meta name=Generator content="Microsoft Office HTML Filter 2.0"> <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <meta name=Originator content="Microsoft Word 10"> <style> <!-- --> </style> </head> <body lang=EN-US> <div> <p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <b>74:56:01:15.&nbsp;&nbsp;Operation and maintenance of cathodic protection -- Criteria for taking tests.</b> One or more of the following criteria must be met when taking tests of UST systems:</font></p> <p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">&nbsp;</font></p> <p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; (1)&nbsp;&nbsp;A negative potential of at least 0.85 volts (V) measured between the UST system and a saturated copper sulfate (Cu<sub>2</sub>SO<sub>4</sub>) reference electrode touching the soil above the tank;</font></p> <p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">&nbsp;</font></p> <p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; (2)&nbsp;&nbsp;A negative shift in potential of at least 300 millivolts (mV) (.30V) as measured between the UST system and the copper sulfate electrode. This shift is the difference between the unprotected potential and the potential with the impressed current applied;</font></p> <p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">&nbsp;</font></p> <p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; (3)&nbsp;&nbsp;A negative polarization potential shift of at least 100 millivolts (mV) (.10V) as measured between the UST system and the copper sulfate reference electrode contacting the soil.
