The Department of Labor and Regulation may excuse the failure to furnish the report within fourteen days if it finds it to be in the interest of justice to do so. Thereafter, if the employee needs continued medical care or claims to be disabled from employment, the medical practitioner or surgeon shall provide status reports to the employer and the Department of Labor and Regulation at no less than thirty-day intervals.
