Office of School and Public Lands: (November 22, 2000) is proposing rules to regulate the paleontological collection and excavation of vertebrate fossils on certain School and Public Lands. The general authority for these rules, as cited by the division is SDCL 5-1-16.

A public hearing will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2000, at 10:00 a.m., in Legislative Conference Room 1, 3rd Floor, State Capitol, 500 East Capitol Avenue, Pierre, South Dakota. Copies of the proposed rules may be obtained from the South Dakota Office of School and Public Lands, c/o de Hueck Law Office, 1309 East Wells Avenue, Pierre, South Dakota 57501. Written comments may be sent to the South Dakota Office of School and Public Lands, State Capitol, 500 East Capitol Avenue, Pierre, South Dakota 57501. Material sent by mail must reach the office by January 2, 2001, to be considered. This hearing is being held in a physically accessible place. Persons who have special needs for which the office can make arrangements are asked to call (605) 773-3303 at least forty-eight hours before the hearing.

Rules Review Committee Meetings

The next meeting of the Interim Rules Review Committee will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2000, in Room 413 of the State Capitol, Pierre, starting at 9:00 a.m. This will be the last meeting for the year 2000. The committee will meet again following the 2001 legislative session. Agencies whose rules have had a public hearing are asked to have a representative present at the meeting to give background information on their rules.

Each agency is requested to provide the LRC with eight copies of the most recent draft of its rules two days before the meeting.
