A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring and commending Bob and Jan Fuller for their dedicated services as foster parents in the Pierre community.

WHEREAS, Robert (Bob) and Janis (Jan) Fuller, in addition to raising their four children, have provided foster care, long-term and short-term, to over one thousand children, primarily infants, since initially becoming licensed as foster parents in 1972; and

WHEREAS, Bob and Jan have participated with a team of Child Protection Services staff, parents, family members, and other service providers either to help children return home to their families or transition to other permanency plans such as relative care, guardianship, or adoption; and

WHEREAS, Bob and Jan, after retiring as foster parents in February 2017, applied to become relicensed in August 2017 and are presently fostering infants on an ongoing basis because foster families are needed, and Bob and Jan decided to continue helping to fulfill this need; and

WHEREAS, Bob and Jan are active members of the Pierre Area Foster Parent Association and are champions for recruiting foster and adoptive families in the local community:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature honors and commends Bob and Jan Fuller for their dedicated services to the children they have cared for, their community, and the state of South Dakota as long-term foster parents.
