A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring and congratulating Nash Hutmacher for winning the 285-pound weight class at the 2020 State Class A Wrestling Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, as well as for his success in football.
WHEREAS, Nash Hutmacher has put forth hard work and dedication in remaining undefeated in the 2020 wrestling season, becoming the first heavyweight in South Dakota history to win four state titles; and
WHEREAS, Nash Hutmacher was the first freshman ever to receive the Wrestler of the Year award from the Mitchell Daily Republic in 2017, was the first South Dakotan since 1990 to win the USA Wrestling Cadet Freestyle National Championship, and ranks first in the country in wrestling according to the latest 2020 InterMat Wrestling national rankings; and
WHEREAS, Nash Hutmacher won the 2020 State Class A Wrestling Tournament for his fourth consecutive title. He pinned his opponent in the championship match in eighty-nine seconds and pinned all four of his opponents in a total time of 2:40. With a whopping seventy-three pins, Hutmacher closed his career with the longest consecutive pin streak in South Dakota history. Hutmacher's victory pushed his team to a sixth-place finish at the State Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Nash Hutmacher has never lost a wrestling match in his high school career, finishing with a winning streak of 166 matches, a record that is unheard of. His father, Joe Hutmacher, set state records for deadlift and squat in both the 275 and 319-pound weight classes and passed on his exceptional abilities and work ethic to his son; and
WHEREAS, Nash Hutmacher's supportive family and his desire to work hard, as both an athlete and an individual, have brought him enormous success and will continue to do so in his bright future. His success is not only in the sport of wrestling but also in the sport of football. As an offensive tackle Hutmacher ranks 585th in the country; and
WHEREAS, Nash Hutmacher is a three-star football recruit, and his success in the sport of football has attracted multiple offers to continue his athletic career at multiple Division I schools. In December 2019, Hutmacher committed to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to be a defensive lineman and will be joining the Huskers this summer; and
WHEREAS, to go along with his incredible athleticism in the sports of football and wrestling, Nash Hutmacher's dedication and hard work in both sports is incredible. Nash Hutmacher is the greatest heavyweight wrestler the State of South Dakota has ever seen:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Fifth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature honors and congratulates Nash Hutmacher for his relentless efforts and his phenomenal victory at the 2020 State Class A Wrestling Tournament and for his success in the sport of football.
