FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act
to revise the procedure for the renewal of certain school
and public lands leases.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
Section 1. That § 5-5-27 be amended to read as follows:
5-5-27. If the lessee wishes to exercise the option to receive a new lease, the lessee shall sign one copy of the duplicate notice mailed to the lessee by the commissioner. The lessee shall mail it to the commissioner
by certified or registered mail
on or before the first day of December
preceding the expiration date of the lease. Upon receipt of the signed option, the commissioner
shall grant a five-year extension or renewal. The lease
shall

be canceled if the lessee fails
to return the notice to the commissioner on or before the first day of December.
