A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION,
Endorsing and promoting a statewide mentoring
association.
WHEREAS,
numerous studies have shown that mentoring is an important and highly
effective method to help youth-at-risk; and
WHEREAS,
while South Dakota has a number of successful local mentoring programs, the
state has a need to establish mentoring programs statewide; and
WHEREAS,
the communities of Aberdeen, Brookings, Chamberlain, Huron, Milbank,
Mitchell, Pierre, Rapid City, and Winner have already established mentoring programs:
WHEREAS,
the South Dakota Legislature recognizes the importance of a statewide
mentoring program; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-
sixth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, the Senate concurring therein, that the South
Dakota Legislature endorses and supports the development of a statewide mentoring association.
