FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to
authorize a system for the collection, accounting, and
reimbursement of normal and extraordinary structural fire protection efforts resulting from
wildfire.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
Section 1. That chapter 41-20 be amended by adding thereto a NEW SECTION to read as follows:

The federal government's management of the Black Hills National Forest increasingly
threatens the safety of the families that live within the forest-urban interface. Providing greater
guidance for the collection, accounting and reimbursement of costs associated with structural
fire protection is necessary as these threats continue to escalate. Because of these increased
threats, the secretary of agriculture may establish a policy to provide for the protection of homes
and other structures during forest fires.
Section 2. That § 41-20-3.1 be amended to read as follows:

The establishment of a register of qualified professional foresters for the referral of
timber sale assistance requests;
(2)
Provisions for the removal of foresters from the register;
(3)
Provisions for the authorized actions to prevent, suppress and extinguish forest fires
and provide aid to other forces involved in such fires;
(4)
Provisions for the reimbursement of aid provided by the department for the
suppression of forest fires;
(5)
Provisions for the payment of fire suppression costs from the fire suppression
revolving fund;
(6)
Provisions for the purchase and sale of tree seedlings
;
(7) Provisions for the collection, accounting, and reimbursement of normal and
extraordinary structural and other fire protection costs resulting from forest fires
.
