A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,
Honoring and supporting the South Dakota
Humanities Council, on the occasion of their thirtieth anniversary.
WHEREAS,
the South Dakota Humanities Council is a non-profit corporation that has
generated over $15,000,000 that has been matched with additional money from public and
private partnerships in order to sponsor thousands of educational programs throughout South
Dakota; and
WHEREAS,
The South Dakota Humanities Council has received national recognition for
such community-initiated programs as the Oscar Micheaux Festival in Gregory, SD, Statewide
Reading Series, Great Plains Chautuaqua, Museum on Main Street, private fund-raising, and
rural outreach; and
WHEREAS,
The South Dakota Humanities Council co-sponsors programs with libraries,
museums, public and private schools, colleges, universities, professional organizations, ethnic
organizations, senior citizen centers, literacy groups, and local arts and humanities groups in
order to enrich our understanding and appreciation of the history and culture of our state, region,
and nation:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,
by the Seventy-seventh Legislature of
the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature congratulates the South Dakota Humanities
Council on their thirtieth anniversary.
