A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION,
Urging the federal government to address sedimentation
problems in the Missouri River Main Stem Reservoir System.
WHEREAS,
sedimentation in the Missouri River Main Stem Reservoir System is a serious
and persistent problem that will damage property, the economy, and the recreational uses of the
Missouri River, particularly in communities in South Dakota located on the Missouri River; and
WHEREAS,
a major cause of the sedimentation problem in the Missouri River lies with
sediment deposited from tributaries of the Missouri River. Sediment from these tributaries
creates deltas in the river channel, causing damage under certain conditions:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
by the Senate of the Seventy-seventh Legislature
of the State of South Dakota, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the United
States Congress and the appropriate federal agencies are urged to address and solve the urgent
problems created by sedimentation in the Missouri River Main Stem Reservoir System.
