A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION,
Honoring and congratulating Opal Peterson on her
ninety-first birthday.
WHEREAS,
Opal Irene Johnson was born on March 11, 1911, the daughter of Carl and Ida
Johnson of Fairview, South Dakota, and she married William Henry Peterson in 1933; and
WHEREAS,
She partnered with her husband and ran The Tip Top Café in Vermillion, South
Dakota, for many years. She also spent many years as the cook at The Kappa Alpha Theta
Sorority, Chi Omega Sorority, and Sigma Nu Fraternity at the University of South Dakota; and
WHEREAS,
She is the proud mother of Bill Peterson and grandmother of Lucas and Robert
Peterson. Those who have had the privilege of knowing her personally are always struck by her
work ethic, feisty nature, and love for life:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED,
by the Seventy-seventh Legislature of
the State of South Dakota, that Opal Peterson be congratulated on the occasion of her ninety-
first birthday and recognized for a distinguished lifetime of service to her family and South
Dakota.
