FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to
prohibit certain forms of compensation for persons
circulating petitions.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
Section 1. No person may receive any wages, reward, or compensation for circulating any petition for any initiated measure or referendum based on the number of signatures obtained by the circulator on the petition. Nothing in this section prohibits any person from being employed on an hourly or salaried basis to circulate such petitions. A violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor.
Section 2. No person may employ, reward, or compensate any person to circulate any petition for any initiated measure or referendum based on the number of signatures obtained by the circulator on the petition. Nothing in this section prohibits any person from hiring a person paid on an hourly or salaried basis to circulate such petitions. A violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor.
