         FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to  revise the deadline for voter registration before an election.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
     Section  1.  That § 12-4-5 be amended to read as follows:
     12-4-5.   The county auditor shall enter in the master registration file the names of all eligible persons who have had their completed applications for registration and mail registration cards received by any county auditor or any local, state, or federal agency responsible for conducting voter registration under this chapter not later than 5:00 p.m. fifteen seven days preceding the election. However, any completed mail registration card mailed to the appropriate county auditor and postmarked not less than thirty days preceding an election shall be added to the registration file. Voter registrations completed at any local, state, or federal agency during any given week commencing on Tuesday through the following Monday shall be sent to the appropriate county auditors no later than the following Wednesday. The State Board of Elections may promulgate rules, pursuant to chapter 1-26, for the alternative transmission of voter registration information by computer from the agency to the secretary of state. The name

of any voter who has registered to vote by 5:00 p.m. fifteen seven days preceding the secondary election shall be added to the file used for the secondary election.
