A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Commending the South Dakota Air National Guard's 114th Fighter Wing of Sioux Falls for being awarded the Distinguished Flying Unit Plaque and the United States Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

WHEREAS, the National Guard Association of the United States awarded the Distinguished Flying Unit Plaque to the 114th Fighter Wing as one of the top five most outstanding flying units in the Air National Guard; and

WHEREAS, this is the ninth time the 114th Fighter Wing has received this award; and

WHEREAS, the United States Air Force and Air National Guard awarded the Outstanding Unit Award to the 114th Fighter Wing for exceptional meritorious service; and

WHEREAS, this is the eleventh time the 114th Fighter Wing has received this award; and

WHEREAS, the selection for these awards is based on overall combat readiness and the unit's performance with respect to all other Air National Guard flying units. Factors in the evaluation and selection include flying safety, aircraft operations, weapons firing, unit alerts, unit manning, skill-level qualifications, retention, drill attendance, operational readiness inspections, outstanding accomplishments, and special missions; and

WHEREAS, the 114th Fighter Wing continues to demonstrate support to its community and the state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Sixth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature expresses its respect, commendation, and congratulations to the South Dakota Air National Guard's 114th Fighter Wing for earning the Distinguished Flying Unit Plaque and Outstanding Unit Award. The 114th Fighter Wing is further recognized for its outstanding service to South Dakota and the United States.
