A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Recognizing Helen Sweeter of Worthing for the honors
and recognition she has received for an exemplary life of service to her family, church, and
community.
WHEREAS, Helen has been a lifelong resident of Lincoln County and attended and obtained her
high school education at the Augustana Academy in Canton; and
WHEREAS, Helen began learning to play the piano at the age of five and has been the organist
at West Prairie Lutheran Church since the age of thirteen; and
WHEREAS, Helen and her husband, Don, have raised their children on the family farm and
continue to promote agriculture in our state; she has had a lifelong interest and involvement with
youth through the 4-H program; and
WHEREAS, Helen helped begin the Open Class Division for adults in the Lincoln County
Achievement Days in Canton; and
WHEREAS, Helen was recently honored by South Dakota State University by being named a
recipient of the Eminent Homemaker Award:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-First Legislature of the State
of South Dakota, that the Legislature recognizes Helen Sweeter for the honors and recognition she
has received for an exemplary life of service to her family, church, and community.
