FOR AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to revise the method used to calculate the petition
signatures to place initiated measures on the ballot and to declare an emergency.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
Section 1. That § 2-1-5 be amended to read:
2-1-5. The total number of votes cast for Governor at the last preceding gubernatorial election, shall for the purposes ofthis chapter, amending or supplementing the South Dakota
Codified Laws, be the basis for determining the number of petitioners required.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:

number of petitioners required.
Section 2. Whereas, this Act is necessary for the support of the state government and its existing public institutions, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and this Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
