        A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Commending the South Dakota Air National Guard 114th Fighter Wing on being awarded the Distinguished Flying Unit Plaque and for its continued demonstration of support to the local community and the state.

    WHEREAS, the South Dakota Air National Guard 114th Fighter Wing was presented the prestigious Distinguished Flying Unit Plaque award for the sixth time in 2016. This award is given to the top five most outstanding flying units in the Air National Guard each year; and

    WHEREAS, the 114th Fighter Wing was also awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award in 2016, marking the eighth time the 114th Fighter Wing has won this award for meritorious service; and

    WHEREAS, the selection is based on overall combat readiness and the unit's performance with respect to all other Air National Guard flying units with flying safety, aircraft operation readiness, weapons firing, unit alerts, unit manning, skill level qualifications, retention, drill attendance, operational readiness inspections, outstanding accomplishments, and special missions all being factors in the evaluation and selection:

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Second Legislature of the State of South Dakota, that the Legislature expresses its respect, commendation, and congratulations to the South Dakota Air National Guard 114th Fighter Wing for its sixth award of the Distinguished Flying Unit Plaque and its eighth Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and recognizes its outstanding service to the great state of South Dakota and the United States of America.
