A LEGISLATIVE COMMEMORATION, Honoring the city of Mobridge for being included in the
2017 Governor's Awards for Outstanding Support of the Arts by an Organization or Business.
WHEREAS, Mobridge, South Dakota, was named for exceptional support of the arts within the
city of Mobridge because of its focus on artistic expression and the value of art for public enjoyment
and education; and
WHEREAS, the city of Mobridge has invested large amounts of time and money to maintain
many historic and artistic sites throughout the city including the Oscar Howe murals in the
Scherr-Howe Arena as well as the restoration of the oldest sections of the original Mobridge town
site Wrigley Square; and
WHEREAS, the city of Mobridge has worked to add the Mobridge Auditorium containing the
Oscar Howe murals to the National Register of Historic Places and is currently working to list the
site as a National Historic Landmark; and
WHEREAS, the city of Mobridge is working with South Dakota artist John Lopez to erect more
artistic sites around the city of Mobridge; and
WHEREAS, the city of Mobridge has hosted a regional arts and crafts show for forty-one years
and created the position of city historian to organize and recognize the cultural history of Mobridge:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT COMMEMORATED, by the Ninety-Second Legislature of the
State of South Dakota, that the Legislature recognizes the city of Mobridge for the honor of being
recognized for its Outstanding Support of the Arts by an Organization or Business in South Dakota.
