A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION, requesting that the President of the United States designate
a single state funeral be held upon the death of the last living identifiable veteran from
World War II.
WHEREAS, a single state funeral would provide national recognition in honoring all sixteen
million soldiers, sailors, and airmen who served from 1941-1945; and
WHEREAS, it is important at this time when our nation stands divided in numerous ways
to come together in a unifying event honoring those who served in World War II; and
WHEREAS, a single state funeral would provide an opportunity to thank millions of
patriotic American families who had a parent, spouse, or family member in World War II; and
WHEREAS, this designation needs to take place as soon as possible because the youngest
of the four remaining World War II Medal of Honor recipients is ninety-three years old:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Senate of the Ninety-Fourth Legislature
of the State of South Dakota, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the President
of the United States is hereby requested to designate a single state funeral be held upon the death
of the last living identifiable veteran from World War II.
